It was the morning of the first day of school and Abbie couldn't be more happier. She was the first in her dorm to get up (with various shouts of, "turn off the lights!" from her room mates) and was bouncy all morning. She quickly took a shower, making sure to wash even behind her ears, and exited the girl's locker room smelling like thick pine ivory. Abbie skipped back up to her room, put on her gray uniform and finally slipped into her robes. She had a bright idea to make a badge like the ones Prefects were awarded, but instead it would say, "Quidditch Captain". Although, considering the fact that she knew some Professor might be upset, Abbie decided against it and instead rushed downstairs into the common room to put on her Mary Janes in front of the crackling fire.
Usually she would wait for her friends to get up and meet her on the couch until all were present then they would all depart to the Great Hall together. But, as Abbie eyed the ticking Grandfather clock, she sighed in despair finding that she had awoken an hour early and expecting her friends to arrive anytime soon would be a lost cause. She climbed off the couch, dusted off her robes, and decided it might be best just to head on up to breakfast. She climbed through the portrait hole, pushing it lightly in hopes not to make too much noise, then scurried down the corridor with her shoes echoing the entire way.
The dungeons were usually cold in the morning so Abbie gripped the side of her robes and pulled them closer to at least attempt to stay at a decent temperature before catching a cold. As she past a portrait of a basket of fruit farther down the hall, she whiffed the luxurious smell of bacon, biscuit rolls and eggs. Abbie had discovered in her late second year that behind that portrait, if you tickled it in the right spot, would open up and reveal a kitchen full of house elves fixing all of the meals served at Hogwarts. It made her rather thankful that she was in Hufflepuff for their common room was just a few paces past the picture. It was enjoyable to take a whiff of what was going to be served later on in the day while on your way to rest in the dormitories.
Finally reaching the end of the corridor, Abbie approached the staircase leading up to the first floor and, eventually, the Great Hall- in which she now eagerly anticipated after passing the kitchens. She lightly placed her hand against the wall for slight support and then gently moved her way up the stairs. She picked up one foot after the other, curiously never letting her hand slide away from it's position on the wall. Usually she had to worry about hurting the people in the picture frames placed everywhere among Hogwarts, but in the dungeons no picture frames with humans were present. Abbie assumed they complained about the cold as well.
At the height of the stairs, she emerged into the warmth of the castle. The halls were not completely clear for very few students were roaming around. Various Gryffindors were gathered in a corner discussing Merlin knows what, two Slytherins were entering the great oak doors leading into the Great Hall and one Ravenclaw sat alone at a table nearby reading a book studiously. Abbie followed the Slytherins and made her way toward the great oak entrance. She was no longer surprised at the size of the Great Hall for she had been here for quite a few years, but it was still miraculous even if it was un-noticed by the upper class-men who had become very immune to the enchantments placed all among the castle.
The ceiling in the Great Hall probably reached to the highest tower at Hogwarts, but was shrouded halfway with clouds resembling the weather outside. They were fluffy and still a dull gray making Abbie curious as how early she had actually woken. It certainly could not have been that early. Candles floated directly below these clouds, lit with an orange fire that did not emit too much light. Fortunately, thousands covered the entire hall making it light up with a humble-type atmosphere. And directly in the middle of the hall were four long tables stretching the entire length of the room. Each table had a long tablecloth a different color (red, green, yellow, and blue) for each seating. At the very end of the room was a long table stretching the width of the hall with a gold and silver tablecloth across it.
Abbie made her way to the table clad in yellow and sat down at a randomized area on the bench. Giving another great whiff of the food placed in front of her like she had near the kitchens, she took her fork and stabbed a piece of sausage. Slowly, she moved it over her own plate and let it gently drop to the china. The only sound made was that of the grease splatting against it and sloppily dripping off the pork. Abbie stared at it for a second or two with her nose wrinkled as if a little disgusted, but then shrugged it off. She cut the meat casually, slipping it into her mouth and smiling to herself.

What a refreshing sleep. Even though she had only done a little in preperation for today, it had been nice to lay down on her feather bead and pillow. She pulled away the sheets as her slim white cat creeped over her feet, and brushed out her long, slight curls. The younger professor put away the soft brush and showered with nice, steaming water. She slipped on her loose, formless, black dress and pulled her green velvet robe. Quickly but not carelessly she pulled her hair up into a neat, tight bun. She was ready for breakfast.
Nicole glanced at the small clock in her private Ravenclaw room before ducking out. She had exactly enough time to get down from the tower and to the great hall where her students awaited her. First period she had sixth years from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, of course. So they were probably eating already. She smiled to herself as she made her way down the great marble staircase. Professor Shalen greeted a few of the Slytherin boys from her third period before entering the hall.
She still marveled at the ceiling and floating chandeleirs. Looked like today would be a nice, warm, sunny day. Of course, that might not prove to be helpful. Antsy students made teaching tougher, though Nicole knew how to handle it. She saw a few students, and quickly picked out Abigale Chalk on the Hufflepuff side. She smiled and made her way up to the head table.
Oh, breakfast smelled delicious! Professor Shalen seated herself one chair left of the headmaster's. He seemed to be away today, as there was no plate or glass in his place. She sighed. What a shame, to miss the first day. Swiftly and noislessly she pulled out her chair and was sitting down.
First, of course, she put the lace-edged napkin in her lap. That was how she was taught manners. She filled her glass full of orange juice from the pitcher in the middle of the table as a few other teachers trickled in. First Charms, then Potions, then Herbology. A few teachers never did like to come to breakfast, so there was no chair for them regularly. After she greeted the few teachers, she began her meal.
It looked awfully good. Two pancakes drizzled with syrup, two links of sausage, and some hashbrowns to top it off. Quickly she cut a few pieces from the fluffy pancakes and filled her mouth appropriately. She washed it down with some more juice, and finished the pancakes. Next she ate the juicy sausage and crispy hashbrowns. This was probably the best meal to start off the first day of school.
Ah, it was the Owl Post. Because she was a teacher, Nicole had the cat in her private dorm of the Ravenclaw tower and she also owned an owl. His name was Sorri, and he was a snow owl. She always had trouble finding Sorri when they were outside in the winter. He swooped down from the large, opened windows and perched himself on the back of the woman's chair. She thanked him with a piece of leftover sausage, and took the brown envelope from his claws.
Dear Nicole, I wish you good luck today with your new students and your old ones alike. Things here are doing fine, and I've been receiving a few letters of thanks from the parents of your preschool students. They think you did a fine job, and say that their children are happy they have the knowledge you gave them for Hogwarts. That, of course, is the older children.
Things at the hospital are busy but manageable. Ella is doing well at the child care center here. I just saw her before writing this letter. Once again, I hope everything is well.
Love, David
What a wonderful letter from her husband. She was glad to hear Ella, her daughter, was doing well. Sometimes she didn't like going to the magical hospital's center, even though she couldn't wait for it half the time. Professor Shalen tucked the piece of parchment into her baggy cloak, and stroked the sleek white owl. "Be good, and go back to the owelry," she said and gave him one last piece of the meat on her plate. Happily he took flight and slowly made his way back to the owelry tower.
Well, it was almost time to leave. She still had a few last-minute things to prepare in the room. So she stood from the table and excused herself from the other few teachers and pushed the chair back in. School started at eight-thirty sharp, and it was twenty 'till. So she had quite a few minutes to get up to the Transfiguration room on the third floor and straighten things up.
Nicole made her way out of the Great Hall, trying to fight the current of students who started streaming in. Outside was better, so she cut through the dew-covered courtyard to the side where her classroom was located. Up she went on the curving stairs, quickly skipping the missing stair. That rarely tricked her anymore. Ten minutes untill the first class of the first year entered her room.

Felicity could not help it. Smiling gently excitement bounced off her at all ends. It seemed cheesy to her that she got happy about the first day of school. Trudging down from the Ravenclaw Common room she nodded past a group of third years whispering excitedly. Leaving her hair loose and wavy she looked down at her appearance. Not to disastrous. A black robe with silver outlining and just casual jeans and a blouse inside. Formal-ish. Felicity didn't have time to go back and change again to make it look less formal.
She was early when she arrived at the Great Hall. Or what she thought so. Plopping down her bookbag and taking a book out she looked at the contents of the table. Pancakes,sausages,bacon,eggs....she smiled a bit. Leaving the book open next to her she grabbed two sausages, couple of pieces of bacon and some eggs. Pouring herself a glass of pumpkin juice she noticed a one Hufflepuff girl and a couple Slytherins and some teachers too.
Nodding to each of them in exchange of silent greeting she grinned and read from her book while eating. The book was about charms and its uses. Peh. Most of them she already knew due to her Aunt's over filled library. During the Summer, she would either spend most of her time readng, getting ready for the new semester in Hogwarts, practicing the Piano, drawing or painting or sometimes, rarely, daydreaming.
Glancing around the great Hall she realized she barely knew any of them. Most of the other Ravenclaw's hadn't gotten up yet. So she was the only one of her table. Good. Stretching her legs luxuriously and yawning a bit she smirked. Owl Post was supposed to come anytime soon. She hoped Opal brought at least some mail to her. It didn't matter if it was from her parents. She could just throw them in the fire at her Common Room.
Smiling appreciatively, she took a sip from her Pumpkin Juice and shut her book and stuck it in her bookbag. Now was not the time to be studying over 500 charms and spells. She could take her time observing the hall and write a full, detailed report about what happened and give it to her teachers for extra credit. Smirking at the thought she brushed it away. How nerd-ish was she ever going to get?
Brushing off crumbs from her mouth with a napkin a soft twitter escaped to her ear. Smiling at her bird, Opal she retrieved a letter and examined it. Good, not a howler. Just a simple note. Pushing her plater away from her she plopped it down on the table and stared at it. Guess who its from! Why...my dear parents. I suppose they've written to apologize or to irritate me some more?
Felicity could not help but despise her pretentious parents who cared for nothing but reputation and family wealth. As if they haven't enough of that already. They could coo or they pleased and Felicity wouldn't look twice at them. Their heads were empty and heart as cold as ice. "Good thing you came to me first. I was worried how my sister would bring you up." She recalled that sentence the day she arrived to her Aunts house with a simple bag of her belongnings, angry and feverish from the long trip away from her parents house.
Memories. How simple and touching they were. Smiling again she simply sat back and watched her surroundings.

Glancing down to her half-finished piece of sausage, Abbie quirked an eyebrow. She leaned back from the table, glanced around the room to check if anybody was watching, then leaned forward once more. Her hand grabbed a piece of toast from a serving plate and the other grabbed her half-finished sausage. She gently placed the sausage on the toast, then wrapped the bread around it making a creative form of the muggle's classic pigs-in-a-blanket. Abbie had never heard of such a meal and thought it a rather unique idea to come from her mind. Surveying her masterpiece for a second more, she then shoved it all into her mouth and attempted to chew it down without choking. Next time, she figured, it might be best to judge the size of the toast.
After swallowing the huge chunk of food, Abbie leaned backward once more to look around the Great Hall. Maybe in a span of a minute, somebody had entered. Unfortunately, nobody had. Sighing and looking at the nearest clock, she noticed that not much time had passed since she arrived to breakfast. Feeling rather let down, she placed her head into her sausage greased hand to rest. But, once her hand arrived at her cheek, she wrinkled her nose and immediately grabbed the nearest napkin in hopes of wiping off the liquid from her fingers. Abbie was really out of it.
She continued to try and look around the room for more people and was happily greeted by a Ravenclaw across the way. She had only carried a few conversations with Felicity, but all were rather enjoyable. She seemed to be quite the sweet Ravenclaw and earned a good reputation for their house. Every time Abbie had seen her previously she was reading or in the library getting work done. She was a curious witch, but a good one at that. Abbie nodded a simple response back to Felicity from the Hufflepuff table and was debating whether to join her or not.
Her head turned to view the entrance of the Great Hall. Still no Hufflepuffs. Slouching in posture at the utter disappointment in front of her, her eyes trailed back to the lone Ravenclaw. Eh, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Heck, they both had been here for six years and had only been in contact a couple of times. It was rather impolite of both to have not been closer, but neither could complain. The other had acted the exact same way. It takes a friend to make a friend.
Abbie rose from her table and quietly made her way over to the large table clad with royal blue. She had never noticed how sparkly clean and fresh-looking this table appeared. Not only were these Ravenclaws smart, but they seemed to be rather clean as well. Nodded her head to herself as if impressed, Abbie sat down across from Felicity and gave a friendly smile. Hopefully she had not spotted Abbie's stuck up nod of approval. Well, it really wasn't stuck up, but Abbie's mind had the repetition of blowing actions out of proportion when Abbie was busy meeting new people. Yes, Abbie was a friendly person and could get along well with her friends, but when it came to meeting new people that was a different story.
She was out-going, as always, but had the tendency to always be caught in the act of doing things that weren't really as they seemed. For instance, when she was a first year and met her room mates for the first time, she was busy trying to feed her owl Mancini. Unfortunately, it bit her out of frustration making Abbie scream at the top of her lungs right when her room mates entered the dormitory. They immediately dubbed her crazy for their entire first year, but it was dropped once they realized her bubbly personality. They were convinced there was no way she could be crazy. Yet, they still make various jokes about that which irks Abbie to a certain extent.
"So, uh, what are you reading?" she casually asked, peeking over the top of the letter as if implying her obvious curiosity. Feeling as if she was suddenly violating privacy, Abbie lowered her head just as quickly as she had raised it. That was defiantly uncalled for on her part. Good thing this Felicity wasn't a cute guy or else Abbie's nerves would be much worse than they already were.

Putting the letter down on the side with writing on it she managed to put a smile. Munching on her sausage she grinned a little. "Sorry..I had to eat that sausage...its just..a silly letter." Felicity's favorite item on the breakfast menu was Sausages with eggs and Orange Juice. Although they did serve it at Hogwarts..today she felt more lust for Pumpkin juice.
Smiling in happiness she erased the thought of her letter. "And so my dearest daughter......there is a party...it would be commendable if you would join us...the wife of the Minister of Magic is going to come...." Curling her lip at the thought she played around with her scrambled eggs.
"So whats first on your scheduale this morning?" She asked nonchalantly..keeping a light tone in the conversation. She had admired the outgoing way Abbie had just walked right over to the Ravenclaw table and sad down across from her. Feeling glad she didn't have to be alone at the table. "I wonder what happened to the others. Its like they all dissapeared and died...."
The Great Hall certainly seemed a bit deserted only a couple of people here and there..and some teachers. Yes...it seemed like they all gone and died. Imagination going wild, her mind was filled with thoughts. What if everyone somehow gotten sick and classes were canceled! The amount of work the school Nurse would have to put up. Then I can go read or play some quidditch the whole day...
"Earth to me." She heard herself say quietly and grinned. Daydreaming and her imagination were another one of her quiet-like traits. Leaning back she tapped her fingers on the table. Looking down at her bulging bookbag she sighed.
Here was the first day of school and she already felt all worn out by just staring at her bookbag. The textbooks this year were thicker and likely to be more homework. I'm a Ravenclaw. I can make it through. Felicity couldn't bear to think what next years textbooks were going to be like.

Abbie pulled back the flap on her sling bag and rummaged thorough the belongings to see if she could find any type of schedule. She knew she had put it in there this morning. It was discreetly posted on the bulletin board in the common room and, right when Abbie had realized it was the schedule, she feverishly pulled out a thick piece of parchment and began scribbling it down. Hopefully she had not lost it for she would hate to journey back down into the dungeons just to tell Felicity what class she had first. But, ah ha!, there it was. The silly little bugger. Her hand was tightly grasped around a loose piece of parchment which just had to be the schedule for it was the only loose piece of parchment she had left laying around last.
When Abbie pulled it up, it was slightly crushed by the many books stored into her bag, but she took her hand and spread it out over the paper to view it's contents. Yes, it was definitely the schedule and she couldn't be more happy to see what her first class was. She just hoped that she had it with her Ravenclaw friend here. She wouldn't mind having somebody to walk to class with. But, then again, Abbie was completely capable of walking by herself. Not like she wanted to, though. It was a terrible thing to walk alone on the first day.
"I have Shalen first thing." Her run-in with the Professor yesterday had been rather pleasant, (other than the regretful fact that they descended the "stairs of doom"). Besides, Abbie was looking forward to a nice little Transfiguration lesson in the morning. Abbie was rather talented at the act of Transfiguration, so she was usually always finished first and, except for maybe a few Ravenclaws, Abbie was the only student to be given loads of time to finish work in other classes or the opportunity to leave class early. Ah, the benefits of being a good student.
"So, how about you? What's your next class?" Abbie asked, a friendly smile appearing upon her face. All she could think about was that lesson. Oh, she almost wanted to run to the classroom just so she could get started. Sometimes she was surprised that she was sorted in Ravenclaw for her obvious enthusiasm for her classes. But, she only showed this much joy for Charms and Transfiguration, so that probably would not have worked out. Abbie was a proud badger, anyway. And nobody could take her house pride from her.

Transfiguration. It was a complicated subject...but yet so simple....and logical. You just had to say the write spell and hope with your mightiest it might just turn out right. Smiling she felt her mood lift up slightly. "Me too. Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws have them together I think." Pausing for a moment she set down her fork.
"Why don't we walk together to the class?" it was brief and Felicity felt her suddenmuse to talk die again. That was how it was. It was like dancing. You take a step in closer...and take a step out...like Ocean Waves...like...so many different things. Again, it complicated...yet so simple...
Thinking deeply again she found Abbie was a nice person to have around. She seemed to burst life around her and seemed certainly a decent person. A kindred spirit in the first day of school. Others were leaving and Felicity suspected the others were either sleeping in and skipping breakfast or going into the Kitchens later.
Last year when Felicity was sometimes late due to sleeping-in she would skip breakfast and go straight to the Kitchens the moment she had her free period during the morning. To bad muggle technology doesn't work in Hogwarts. I could use an arm-clock or whatever they call it.
Sunlight bounced off the windows and shone into her eyes. Covering the sunlight she grinned full of life. Felicity wasn't one of those people who had to talk to show their emotions. Her writing and thoughts inside were all that mattered......it was just enough. Felicity used to be at least normal in talking terms...but her relationship with her mother and father..seemed to turn..everything different.
It was until she learned to keep thoughts to herself. Personally she thought it was an important lesson to learn. You can't cry in public.. She remembered herself thinking at a dinner party when her mother directly accused her and teased her of her dress. She tried so hard all evening to please her parents and wea the hideous dress...... You can't cry in public.
Blinking and finding her face being burned by the Sun she took the last sip of Pumpkin Juice and turned to Abbie. "So what do you say? I seriously don't mind getting out of the heat." She said quietly with a smile although it didn't seem to belong there. Picking up the the note turned on its blank side she stuffed it in her bag and got up off her chair. You can't cry in public.
((Sorry for the most bad post ever EDIT;I'm going to push my muse..so I'll finish writing this later... Super EDIT;There..better...))

out of character Sorry for the crappy post. I'm out of it right now.
in character Abbie sat there, twiddling her thumbs together and thinking of random thoughts. The birds outside were happily chirping which meant that most of her room-mates would be waking up. They usually woke to the sound of a bird's song and would always crawl down the stairs with this distressed look upon their face. Once Abbie's friend had come down the stairs with her ears clutched by her hanging sleeves. She plopped herself down on the couch upsettingly. For the next ten minutes all she could say was, "I hate birds". Being the giggly person that she was, Abbie laughed at her and began to jump around the room with her arms flailing in the air as if imitating a bird. The other Hufflepuffs quickly joined in making Abbie's friend scream and run back up the dormitory.
Looking back, Abbie recalled that what she did probably wasn't the smartest thing to do around a girl like her for she had the temper of a time bomb. Abbie remembered being ignored a week for that one, but they were fine now. Besides, that was more than two years ago. Surely she had forgotten. But, Abbie hadn't. In fact, to this day, she still laughed when the sound of birds were chirping all around the grounds. Especially when her friend was there- covering her ears with her sleeves once more.
Shaking her head out of it's dream state, Abbie looked back up to Felicity. Apparently she had missed something while she was busy strolling down memory lane because the Ravenclaw was packing up her things. Abbie improvised. "Going to class so early?" she said turning her head to the side. She got up out of her seat as well and flung her book bag over her shoulder. But, before stepping entirely away from the table, she snatched another biscuit. Those things were irresistible.
She turned to Felicity and gave a great sigh. Hopefully Abbie could play along well enough so that she wouldn't notice that Abbie had zoned out for a couple of minutes. Maybe she could follow her for a few corridors and see where she was going. Although, she had to keep a good distance from the point of appearing like a stalker. It wouldn't exactly be easy, but she could probably pull it off nicely.

The morning was cold, but the day would become warm as the sun came out and above the lake which glissened on the crate in the middled of the clearing. A ways from the crate was a man and a white owl. The man was Daniel Todd. He was a new professor and head of house for the Gryffindor. He looked at the sparkling lake and then toward the sun. He knew it was time to head to the castle so he did. The owl on his shoulder and it groom it feathers. He walked up the hill and came to the long bridge that lead to the court yard.
The river ran under the bridge to the cold lake. It harsh waters could make you colder then Christmas morning and it would kill too if you stay down to long. He walked past the courtyard and the doors the the entrance hall opened to a husle and busle of kids talking and having fun. The owl on his shoulder looked around and Daniel gave him a strock with his tan fingers. He had been outside make a bow for todays lesson. He walked up to the great hall and looked inside to see kids talking to each other and eating breakfest.
he walked in his owl perched on his shoulder. He looked at the table up front and walked to the the front. He looked at the other tables and saw a few slytherins looking at him and a few ravenclaws looking at him. He did not care what they though. He pushed himself up the strairs with his strong long legs. He was only 22 years old. He pushed his blonde hair back to reveil two blue eyes and a tan face. He came to the table and set down. He got some of the delilucous food and began to eat watching some of the kids.
He finished his food and looked at all the kids. He need to learn his students, their behavior just like learning a owl and it additude towards him. He took one more bit of eggs and bacon that he had mixed togather and eaten fast. He looked around the great hall and to the blue sky that enchanted the hall. He looked around and saw owls fly in and gave mail to the students. He also had some mail but all it was, was a letter from his father who he hated with a passion. His father was a step father and he told him to stop the stupid magic which Daniel loved. He ripped it up and used a spell to turn it into some owl treats which he gave his owl, Meagan.
