7th year Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors It was not every day that you got teach a class filled with teenage brats. It was not every day that they were magical teenage brats, either. But, the professors at Hogwarts lived for such an occasion. It was an every day activity for them. Get up in the morning with your bed placed discreetly in your too-small-for-comfort office, drawl down to the Great Hall for a quick breakfast (and if you're a sneaky teacher, make friends with the castle elves so that you can skip the Great Hall all together and go straight to the Kitchens) and finally ready your lesson plans for the day. At least, this is exactly how Franklin Orrin's life worked.
He is the History of Magic teacher for Hogwarts and had been for two years now. His first year was rather hard as he tried to relate with the new students, but now that it is his second consecutive year, he has finally discovered that this school is really nothing too big. In his first month, he was curious (as usual) and tried to find out all of the secret passages that led through the school. Perplexed at how many there were, and slightly baffled at how many times the game keeper popped up to stop him from search (Frank digressed that he was a teacher; not a student), he immediately went to the library for further research. Finally, he was confronted by the headmaster himself he told him all of the passages available for his own personal use.
As it is obviously true, Frank is now well acquainted with the school. His lesson plans only seem to the mirror that of a truly well-acquainted teacher. After returning from the kitchens, he locked himself in his office and laid out piles of papers, which consisted of new topics he has yet to teach to the seventh years, all around him in a circle. He closed his eyes, extended his hand and randomly selected a pile. Okay, so maybe his tactics were a little off, but he did a fine job teaching the children of Hogwarts and that is all that mattered.
He picked up the lesson plan and held it before him, scanning through the many pages. With a satisfied smile, he gathered it up and placed it upon the nearest surface before cleaning up the rest of the junk around him. After a half hour of cleaning up the mess he made, he finally grabbed the plan upon his desk and walked out his door. It was just in time too, for the students were just beginning to file into the classroom. Some looked tired and Frank really couldn't blame them. It was the first class of the year. Who would want to be here?
"Alright, alright, sit down." he said, waving his hand around as he spoke. Frank strolled down the steps from the balcony that led from his personal office and stood in front of the crowd. "History of magic," he began, looking up at the ceiling at if addressing the subject like a heavenly figure. "Is boring. To all of you, I assume." he said, letting his eyes trail back down to the their level rather than the sky. "Any questions before I begin my ever-so boring lecture?"

ooc:
But you're a first year Ravenclaw, Marcel. -looks puzzled- Sorry Frank, this is a slight powerplay as I assumed your character is a new teacher in school. I'll change it if you like...
ic:
Tory crunched his cornflakes with relish; he was back at school at last. Last night had been the opening feast and sorting. Filled up with food and laughter, he had almost completely forgotten that a host of lessons were awaiting him the next morning. It wasn't as though Tory didn't enjoy school. As many of his friends kept reminding him he could be a 'prize nerd' when he wanted to. But still, it's nice to not have work sprung on you after such a long holiday. He crossed his fingers mentally that his first lesson would be Care of Magical Creatures.
The Hufflepuff's were eagerly leaning over their timetables at breakfast. There was lots of gossip flying around as to the identity od the various new teachers and why their predecessors had left. Tory, now in his last year, was long since caring. However, he still wanted to know what his first lesson of the year was. It had been discovered earlier on that he and one of his closest friends were in the same classes. Their timetables matched at any rate. His was still up in his dormitory so he asked her brightly what they had first. He couldn't help thinking to himself,
Anything but -
"History of Magic," his friend replied brightly. "New teacher this year, apparently he's very good. Says here he's called Professor Orrin or something like that. You've seen him before Tory I'm sure you have - dark-haired chap, looks about mid-thirty-ish"
"Rings a bell," Tory replied glumly. "But still, you'd think they'd lay off a bit, this early in the year. I mean, if the last teacher was anything to go by, rambling on about Giant Wars like he was talking about a new and disappointing cauldron he had just bought. Hopefully this guy has a little more sparkle."
His friend didn't reply, she seemed to be immersed once more in her new timetable.
After saying goodbye to the rest of the Hufflepuffs, Tory sprinted up into his dormitory to pack. At this rate he'd already be late. On top of that, the journey to the History of Magic was slow one, as he met many of Hogwart's notorious trick steps and walls along the way. Tory had to accustom themselves to the castle after 7 weeks, even if they had lived here for 7 years.
When he finally arrived, it became clear very soon that his half-sprint had been wasted; he was still one of the first students here. Picking his favourite spot by the back, Tory slumped himself down and began to unpack. He decided he was going to keep himself to himself as much as possible this lesson. So follows, he decided to not answer the professor's "Any questions before I begin my ever-so boring lecture?" question. Even though he could have asked many if he had had the inclination.
Instead, he sat with his head propped up on his elbow, and waited for the next friendly face to walk through the door.

///Oh sorry, I had posted that with another one of my accounts. I'm Marcel as well, on a different account. XD Woops...///
History class...
The only thing that was more boring than studying muggle pasts, was that of the world's magical citizens. Okay, so it may be important to Naida to learn the ways of the pasts for her to one day become the famous witch that her father wanted her to become; but that still didn't take off of the fact that she could barely hold her eyes open during most of Professor Orrin's lectures. As he began she laid both arms out on her desk table, looking over to the Hufflepuffs with narrowed eyes. Most of them she didn't know, but a few known faces looked at her and waved back.
A whizz of wind and a white speck quickly flew by the Gryffindor female's face, as she looked, bewildered, onto her desk. It was a note, sent by one of the people in her house, from the far back of the class. Naida Yeni herself wasn't really 'socially proned', and so her eyes simply stared at the not, mentally debating on whether she really wanted to open it or not. The professor seemed to not have noticed, so crunching it under the table, she sneakily read it as it typed itself out.
Little miss perfect...
Hey Naida, what is it that I was hearing about you and that hottie Slytherin, Jude hanging around one another? In shops, down the corridorway...I heard that you two got a little close, now 'n again...=D.
[Res]
Scowling, Naida quickly folded it up and slipped in into one of the inside pockets of her robe. Leave it to Res Smithen to dig into a person's past, and bring out things even they didn't want excluded to everyone. Does everyone know about me and Jude... She turned her head, looking back with a stone, unmarked expression, before turning back to the teacher and listening for a second. Jude had been the furthest thing from her mind for a while, and even thinking back to when they were almost a 'thing' seemed unreal to her.
True, he was very cute and on the borderline of "hot" at one point or another. But it was when she found out about how he wasn't really as kniving as he seemed...that he was more decisive and untrustworthy than she had planned; yes, that was when her liking for him dwindled to a bare minimum. Even though he treated her like a piece of meat sometimes and hadn't even spoken to her since they left Madaam Malkin's clothing shop, a smile was brought to her place, and her face flushed at the speaking of his name.
Taking out a small ink pen and dipping the tip of it into the vial sitting atop her neighbor's desktop, the Gryffindor girl quickly labeled down her response.
Oh Res, please. Jude is long forgotten in my mind; that worthless little ingret can rot for all I care. He may be hot, but come on...close?
Since when have you known me to get close to any GUY!?
Naida slipped it into the sleeve of her robe arm, before dropping it behind her. The note crawled down the side of her chair's leg, and scurried across the floor, into the other girl's hands. Glancing back as Res read, the other Gryffindor rolled her eyes and shrugged. Quickly, Naida had to refrain herself from turning and glanced at the teacher to see if he noticed. It didn't seem so, but with Professor Orrin, nearly anything is possible.

Professor Orrin was a pretty reasonable fellow. When he saw things such as notes being passed, he had the common courtesy to not take them up, but instead embarrass the person who was busy not paying attention in his class. This situation wasn't any different. Right before he was going to make his first class speech on the History of Magic and exactly why it was important to know, he saw out of the corner of his eye something scurry across the floor. At first he believed it to be a figment of his imagination, but immediately recognized it as the fine work of Naida Yeni.
The Gryffindor girl was the goddess of passing notes in class and, as Orrin had learned last year, she was particularly talented in enchanting her notes to pass themselves so that she would not get caught. The first time Frank had caught one of her notes he was rather impressed with her charm work, but also gave her a quick detention. That didn't stop her though, for a week later he had spotted yet another crawling note. It was at that moment he knew that detention definitely wouldn't effect the high amount of notes she passed. Embarrassment was the key.
Now, Naida appeared to be the type of girl you wouldn't want to mess with. In fact, she seemed like the type of girl who didn't get embarrassed. And, as Frank had learned, she never really got embarrassed when he tried to. But, he had developed a like to his own tactic of trying to embarrass her- even if it didn't exactly work. Professor Orrin sighed to himself, eyeing the other Gryffindor student pick up the note, and then looked over to Naida. Yes, she was trying to avoid eye contact. It was definitely her note.
Casually, Orrin walked over to his desk positioned in the corner of the room, reached onto his desk, grabbed a piece of parchment and laid it neatly into his hand. Making as much noise as possible, he crumpled it into a little ball and threw it directly at Naida. "Bad for the first day of class, Yeni. Five points from Gryffindor." Did he feel bad about taking points from Gryffindor? Not in the least, but he did particularly feel bad about loosing one piece of parchment. He seemed to be loosing a good bit lately and had hardly any money to buy more.
"Anyway, since there are no questions," he scanned around once more to see if there were, "We shall begin!" Orrin turned on his heel to the chalk board and wrote down the normal rules of conduct consisting of no talking in class, no passing notes (which he underlined two times) and no getting out of your seat without permission. After finishing, he placed the chalk onto his desk, turning back around to face the class and cleared his throat as if to get their attention.
"You guys are seventh years. You should know the rules by now, you should know how to conduct yourselves in this school, and you should also know that your N.E.W.T.s are this year." Before anybody could emit any type of groan or complaint, he raised his hand to silence them. "Which means we have to study hard and I will be assigning some difficult assignments. And I promise you that if they aren't difficult, it will be time consuming. Now, shall we start our first lesson?"

ooc:Sorry for the short post... ic:Tory leaned back and relaxed with his hands behind his head. Sure, History of Magic was going to be no picnic, but at least he had now mastered sleeping with his eyes open - a trick perfected in Divination. In the middle of his daydreamings, he suddenly gave a huge yawn whilst trying to stifle it. The result was a sound that was a cross between and a cat's meow and a budgie's cheep. He gave a quick glance over to where a large group of girls were sitting, wondering if they'd heard. By the looks of things they hadn't, so he allowed himself a smile. And perhaps he was being unfair, he had heard good things about Professor Orrin. He of course hadn't taken History of Magic last year as he simply had too many other subjects on the go. Even though Tory was a bright enough boy, this meant that he was pretty behind. At that moment, a Gryffindor girl named Naida Yeni walked into the classroom. Naida had been a focus of Tory's attention almost since their first year. She was very pretty, but not always very nice. Tory suspected she didn't really like him, but that wasn't going to stop Tory! Unfortunately, there seemed to be some romantic activity going on between her and another seventh year called Jude Morte. Jude and Tory had never exactly been enemies, but the word 'friends' would be going too far as well. It was a sort of unspoken dislike, heightened by the fact that Tory knew Naida liked him. Aah, oh well.... Professor Orrin was now looking pretty ready to begin, as most students were now assembled in the room. Tory kept a vague eye open as the teacher proceeded to reproach Naida for passing notes - what were we, 12? - and gave us the same pep talk/lecture that the whole of Tory's year had been receiving everywhere. Tory's mind greeted each sentence with a grumpy reply. "- and you should also know that your N.E.W.T.s are this year." Well if you hadn't of mentioned, though Tory sarcastically. I don't think we would have realised that! Now, shall we start our first lesson?"
Tory joined in the dull chorus of, "Yes, Professor Orrin..." as he started to ink a bludger and beater's bat on the side of his desk. He had really missed Quidditch and was really happy that Abbie was finally getting the team into action.

Squinted eyes looked up at the teacher, as she gave no reply to him verbally. What a snobby little jerk, that one is. Naida had heard of Professor Orrin, heard of his teaching skills. Okay, so they weren't the hardest, or even the most complicated out of the other mystical teachers of Hogwarts; but he definetly had an arrogant mean streak. Naida was never one to prejudge; okay..so she was always prejudice, but that being said, the professor was just too strict and to the point for her to really like him. She may have been doing the wrong thing, but it never gave him the possible right to take points away from her House, of Gryffindor.
The other girls sitting around her, the one that were Gryffindors, glared and whispered difficult shots and radicals about her. Ignoring them she simply shifted in her seat, and continued her unmoving glance at the teacher's face. Naida wouldn't even be tempted to change her facial outlook; he thought he had the ability to embarass and make her an outcast of her "own kind". But as he would be soon to learn this year, Ms. Yeni didn't easily get embarassed, nor show it to anyone on the possibility she actually did. Besides, the girls that liked to crowd around her, or even the ones that were sitting around weren't close to the ones in her kind. Ninety-percent of them either hated her, or thought she was some stuck up little rich kid from the "pureblood side of the world".
In all reality, it wasn't like Naida was sweet. She had been downright, disgustingly horrid to most of the girls that sat around her now. But the more and more she was mean to them, the closer and closer they surrounded her; tightly gripping her with their styles and customs. She wasn't one to fit into a group, never really wanted to, and the teacher quickly needed to learn that. This girl definetly wasn't the "people person."
Uh-huh
She muttered, scowling at him and looking down at the papers spread out before him. Hey, at least maybe he knew something about teaching...even if it wasn't anything interesting. Tory Bloom, seemingly the new-teacher suckup, outspoke an answer to Orrin's question. Naida just turned away from him, and began fiddling with the ink feather that lay on her desk. It was pure white in color, the most common type around this time of Hogwarts, and the side quills on it were uniquely spaced apart. The pattern of three veins stuck together, two apart, four stuck together, two apart, went on and on by both sides. A smile was produced on her face as she twirled it, vaguely listening to the professor speak. Is he ever going to say something..?

Orrin smiled at most of the class's chant of 'Yes, Professor Orrin. He noted in his mind that Naida had refused to say such a thing, but he really wasn't too surprised. He could already tell that she would be quite a challenge to teach once again. Even so, the Professor wouldn't put up with such things as note passing in his class no matter who it was. Naida was no exception at all. Although, he was silently pleased that the girls around Naida were disowning her. Frank didn't feel the least bit guilty about that thought either.
"Right," he said, beginning to recite the words on the paper before him. He had picked this lesson randomly in his stack of class assignments and it was quite interesting how, for the first lesson, he had picked one of the easier lessons. Although, he kept to his own word that this was chosen as a random assignment and he had nothing to do with the fact that it was relatively easy. "Circe, our first witch of the year to discuss, was a very talented individual. She had the inevitable power to transform sailors into pigs." He waited for the murmurs and giggles to die down before continuing. Even though he was teaching seventh years, they never failed to enjoy the talk of Transfiguration among muggles. The giggles would most likely be worse in his Slytherin class which he was not looking forward to.
"Now, you may wonder what conditions she would use in order to decide whether the victim was worthy of being transfigured into such a beastly form. Well, this woman was vicious. She did not care whether they did something wrong or not. She would seduce them into a meal and when they good and drunk, they would be swine in a matter of minutes depending on her leisure time." He sighed, looking around the room as faces were staring back at him with a look of awe or utter boredom. Professor Orrin leaned against the wall with his arms folded, allowing a few seconds of invited silence before quirking his eyebrow at them all.
"Why is nobody writing this down?" he inquired, huffing out more air and shaking his head. These kids were seventh years and still none of them had the common sense to copy down what he was saying. Just for that, Frank had a brilliant idea to give them some rather difficult homework. But, it was the first day and Orrin hated when his professors would do that to him when he was a student. Still, he was no longer a student and if he had to endure such a consequence then they would have to. Frank was not evil- just practical.
"Circe turned one man, Picus, into a woodpecker for not loving her. In turn, she also turned Scylla into a monstrous creature with six dogs' heads when Glaucus declared his undying love for her." Professor Orrin paced down the aisles watching as most of the students were beginning to scribble down the information. Yet, still some stubborn pupils were not. Feeling rather frustrated, he huffed out air once again. "Quills OUT!" he bellowed, looking around the room with expectancy.

ooc: Umm, I think you should drop a PM to the other seventh year Hufflepuffs who are meant to be here because I know there's quite a few. There's a complete list of characters in 'The Files'. And if they are online and reply but still don't post in a few days time (without good reason) then you can start docking points. It's what I'm doing with my other account (The Potion's Teacher), because no-one seems to have turned up...yet xD ic: Tory finished his drawing of the Quidditch scene with one last flick of his quill. The flick sprayed a few drops of ink on his desk, so he hastily tried to rub them off with his sleeve. Now setting down his quill once more, he admired his artwork before turning back to Professor Orrin. The Professor had a stack of parchment in his hands which lesson notes were obviously written on. The lecture was about to begin. Tory, being the goody-goody he was, at once eagerly picked up his quill and shuffled around for a piece of parchment to write on. He may have thought that the lesson was going to be boring, but he was the type of person who would stop at nothing for extra credit. He was like his father in the respect that he would always try his hardest at a set task. And besides, it would be unfair to label the lesson as boring when it hadn't even started yet. Finally finding a piece of paper, he made the heading according to the Professor's words. September 2nd, History of Magic, Professor Orrin Circe [/i][/u][/center] He glanced quickly around at the students sitting by him, out of every single one of them he was the only pupil to have started making notes. Feeling a bit nerdy he tried to make the fact he was actually trying as inconspicuous as possible. But as the professor continued, Tory's quill scratched up and down at top speed as he noted down Professor Orrin's next words.
- Circe - talented individual.
- Turned Sailors into pigs.
- She didn't care about innocence - she seduced random sailors, got them drunk and full of food and then would transfigure them.
Lost in his note work, Tory almost jumped out of his skin when the professor finally noticed that hardly anyone was listening to him. Tory stole a quick glance over at Naida, and noted that she was looking decidedly rebellious. After some more students wearily started jotting Professor Orrin's words down, he continued in his lecture. With inky fingers, Tory continued to make short notes, becoming genuinly interested in what the teacher had to say. Maybe decidind to come to this lesson hadn't been such a loss after all. As long as Orrin didn't decide to give them a mountain of homework, Tory could end up in quite a good mood.

///I know it really doesn't matter, Tory, but one thing I noticed in your post is, 'She was very pretty, and has always been very friendly. Unfortunately, there seemed to be some romantic activity going on between her and another 7th year, called Jude Morte. Naida isn't really ever that nice, she had a few little occasions with Jude but its really kinda private, and not many students know about it. Lyk I said, I know its nothing really special, but could you please modify it? Thanks I know, I'm picky.///
Refraining from smacking loudly to get on the teacher's bad side once more, the 7th year sat, scowling, quill in hand and parcel in front of her, but not really in the mood to write. She looked over the other students, including Tory Bloom, who was busy sucking up to the teacher just as much as he could. Naida looked again to her parcel. People easily influenced her sometimes; if someone was being in the right state of mind, and doing what they were supposed to, more than likely, she would try to do her best as well. When she had first met Abbie, that was what happened. A spoiled little brat, high on her pedestal and too proud to try to talk to anyone, was quickly calmed down by the happier, less irritable personality of her closest friend. Closing her robe around her waist after it had fallen back a bit, Naida Yeni straightened, and lowered her eyes from the teacher.
"Yes..sir." She mumbled the words out slowly, shushing Res as she giggled in the back. That girl is always trying to find a fault in someone. Quickly writing, nearly as quickly as Professor Orrin spoke them. Naida took a deep breath, dipped her quill in ink, and walked

Witch - Circe
Power - transfixing men into falling in love with her, before sending punishment to them.
Past - Turning Picus into a woodpecker, turning Scylla into a six-headed dog.
Love? - Glaucus confessed his own love for her.
When Naida finished jotting down the notes that he spoke to them and a few that he didn't that she had already known from the past, she began to doodle a bit on a scrap sheet of parcel, up under her main paper. Her artistics were moderate, not obsessively good but not skritch-skratch. A dog was quickly formed, in mid-run of a dark wood. She drew three snakes in the trees, all having distinctive marks upon them that took her a few minutes to think up and put on paper. Why not doodle? The teacher was busy preparing himself for the next half of his speech about Circe, so there was nothing else better to do.

Orrin sighed, walked back over to his lesson paper, and immediately realized that the second part of this lecture had been lost in his array of messiness. He looked around the room as some students were still busy copying down notes. It was the first day of school. They probably wouldn't mind getting let out of this class anyway, would they? It had been proven by the Daily Prophet that History of Magic was easily the class that the majority of students slept in. That and Ancient Runes. Why did all of the history related classes have to be drgraded among the culture of wizards?
Frank tried to find the other paper, he really did, but he found it quite difficult among the stash of other assignments he had chosen for other grade levels and classes. Giving a great sigh, and taking a moment to calm down by running his fingers through his thick hair, he leaned backward against the wall. This was bad, especially for the first day, but these were seventh years. They could handle a little leaisure time on their first day, right? Besides, Frank had other classes and he would make sure that he had their lesson organized. Orrin had never been one to keep things in order anyway.
"Alright, well," Maybe it was best he told the truth. No point in avoiding it, really. "I lost the lesson plan." He admitted, pacing the front of the room. "But, I think I have given you enough information to have some homework assigned, am I right?" It sounded more like a command rather than a question. "So!, I want you to write one paragraph on your thoughts concerning Circe. Was she right to do what she did to men? If so, why was it right? Why did they deserve, or not deserve, such punishment? It will be due Wednesday during our next class session."
Frank felt terrible to be dismissing this class so early. The class was supposed to last an hour, but instead it only lasted thirty minutes. Well, if the kids were creative they could finish their homework in the next thirty minutes. But, Frank highly doubted any of the students would take this as a time to focus on schoolwork. "Class is dismissed, you may leave." He said, beginning to walk up the winding stairs to his office. He was determined to find that silly lesson plan if it was the last thing he would do.

ooc: //Aah sorry Wolfy. I meant in the sense that Tory had noticed there was some flirting and unspoken understandings going on. That is why I just said " seemed to be some romantic activity". His Hufflepuff friends are mostly female or gay and he had heard rumours from them about it all. But this is mostly because his best friends have huge crushes on Jude and would be eager for any gossip they heard on the matter. But I'll modify the friendly bit for you as I'll admit I wrote it with out really thinking about what's in Naida's profile. Oh and can you post as Marcel on the Potions thread? We're being a bit held up by it.// bic: Tory finished the last words of his notes with another flick of his quill. It wasn't much, about six bullet points at the most, but as long as they didn't have to do more than read through them - it would be more than enough. Tory, however, was to be disappointed in his wish for no homework. And disappointed much earlier than usual. Looking up from his continued Quidditch doodlings, Tory noticed that his History of Magic teacher was looking rather agitated. He was fiddling around with his notes, and gave the class a most welcome surprise when he announced that... "I lost the lesson plan."A few students cheered and even Tory joined in heartily. This surely meant the rest of the lesson would be spent doing nothing. Tory even leaned back in his chair and stretched his legs in anticipation of a long doze. However, his bubble went on to be utterly burst when Professor Orrin proceded to explain the homework. He felt it would be a waste of time to complain or argue at the unfairness of being set homework so early in the term. He simply knew it would do no good at all, and he would probably be given more for his trouble. Knowing he would forget the Professor's words soon after they were scribbled on the board, Tory whipped out a fresh piece of parchment from his bag and began to copy. History of Magic HWK - Due Wednesday 12th June 2007
At least one paragraph on your thoughts on Circe.
Include: - Was she right to do what she did? If so, why?
- Did the men deserve what they got?
[/i] As the professor dismissed the class, Tory needed no persuading to get straight outside and meet his friends by the lake. He was sure Trsiel had said something about having a free period, but if not - he could just get to work on the Circe homework while he waited. He toyed for a moment with the idea of going to ask Naida if she would like to join him. But he soon decided the embarassment wouldn't be worth it, and he was sure Res just didn't like him anyway. So, without another word to anyone, Tory threw his bag over his shoulders and walked out of the classroom.

I have actually done the assignment, I managed it this morning before school. Sorry, I only got back yesterday and didn't see the homework had been set.
I'm not complaining if you take the points off - I didn't hand it in for the deadline after all.
Do we get roleplayed detentions? That would be interesting... xD
