The day was getting late and everything was settling down. It was getting late and everyone was setting in the common room or most were. People were laughing and having a good old time. Talking of back home and reading letters from home. Some where reading notes from class mates of other houses, and some where just slobbering over love notes. Some were doing homework and other classwork that had to be done. People were running around and chasing each other, they were flirting and doing other things.
There was a sound outside the portal hole and the sound of it coming open. Thing went quite for a second but went back to loud and crazy. A figure came into the common room, and it had on a brown coat and a cowboy hat. It was raining outside and the figure was wet and dripping on the floor. The figure pulled out a wand and tapped itself. The figure was soon dry and clean of mud. It looked up and began to remove the hat.
It was professor Daniel Todd, head of Gryfindor house. He looked around and threw back this blonde hair out of his face. He put the hat on the wall and then turned to the common room. "I know it is late Students but I need to make a annoucment. I have hosted a lesson today and I was sappose to have a class with gryfindors in it, I saw none. Now listen hear, this house is know for braver, am I right, Are you all to chicken to come to class."
Yes some would say harsh but it was the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. He looked around and made eye contact with almost all of them. They stop running, they stop flirting, they stop writing and reading. He looked at each of them and again began to speak. "What do you do all day when you miss classes, set around, like a bum and write love notes to classmate, make out with your girl, I do not understand sometime, I came here and I was put to the test, I was told to come to each class and be on time now I expect the same thing"
He said it clear and straight to the point. He was not playing. He then began to speak once more. "Anyone who misses my class again will be sent to the headminister" He said and waited for reply. Who knew he may not get one at all, but he expected one and he knew from one of the older students

Dorian sat, lounging in the chair by the fire. His legs were up over one arm of the chair, his back braced against another. He had a couple of pawns and a rook on a text book on his stomach, and Cartier had flown in through the window to peck at them. He swiped a pawn out of the way of Cartiers beak for the third time. It seemed his chess pieces were getting out of shape. He made a mental note to play chess more to work off their holiday fat and set the panting pawn back down on the flat surface.
He looked up as the portrait hole opened. He was in direct view of the opening, so it was easy. He watched with mild interest as the Head of Gryffindor house dried himself off. Why hadn’t he done that when he’d entered the castle? The custodian would be furious with him for dripping water all the way up to Gryffindor Tower, didn’t he know that? Dorian bit back a grin, and forced his face to smooth out. He did so just in time. Professor Todd looked up, and Dorian’s gaze, along with the handful of other students in the room’s, turned to pay mild attention to the man.
Dorian blinked once or twice through the speech. Honestly, Dorian thought it was a bit of a joke. He was lecturing the whole house because some jokers hadn’t shown up for class? What was with this guy? Once again, Dorian found himself struggling not to laugh. He knew it wouldn’t be polite. And, as always, Dorian succeeded in keeping his face free of any signs of mockery.
In the ensuing silence of the common room, Dorian looked around blandly. He thought it was rather ludicrous to expect the same things of students as staff members. Teachers were paid to teach and to show up for classes, students were forced to come to school, and not paid at all. By all logic, they really shouldn’t even be here, let alone in class. Yet they were here and they did go to class, even if they skipped a few. But Dorian felt no guilt in this. He had not yet skipped a class this year. Dorian looked at the professor, an expression of polite confusion on his face.
”Sir? What if we weren’t scheduled for your class today?”
Dorian said in his most convincingly casual voice. He was confident in his ability to hide his true feelings. He had been doing it for years, after all. Teachers had been his main practice too, Professor Todd was no different. He was doing his job, Dorian just thought he was taking it a little too far. But then, Dorian was a wise-crack, and he wasn’t known to be the most diligent of students. Not that he had a rep for rule breaking, just that he didn’t idolize teachers like certain students did.

As everyone looked at Daniel he looked back, He looked at Dorian and a smirk came to his face. He did not like wisecracker, He knew dorian was a forth year and most the third years were in his class and a few forth years. He leaned agenst the wall and looked at him. He looked at the other who were saying the same thing. He looked down and gave a smile and looked back up. He looked at a open window and a white owl flew in. She never came in the castle unless she went to breakfest with him.
She landed on his shoulder and looked at the students. She had seen alot of them today and she knew the slackers but she said nothing. She set on Daniel shoulder and tucked her wings in tight. Daniel looked at the students infront of him. He knew what they were think. Why should we go to class we are not payed? why are you so serious about it? He then looked at Dorian again. He was right what if he was not in Todd's class. Todd brushed some rain of his shoulder from his owl, and he looked at Dorian again.
"What if you are? What if you never camed to my class and you came one day to a magical creature and you did not know how to face it, and yet I went over it in class, it just chose not to come? I have known to many people who have been killed by trolls and giants because they did not care about this class? Why do I care, because I care to much about all my students, now as I said, the ones that have my class better be in my class." He looked at him, he blinked once and he waited for a reply from any other people. He waited that was all he had to do. He looked around and saw a few people whispering. He gave a chuckle and looked at them.
"You do know it is rude to whisper in public" He said just as his owl let out a ear pericing sound, Daniel calmed her. "Easy girl that is not needed" He seemed not to care about her sound, he was us to them. He looked around at all his students, "What do yall do when yall mess my class, Run around. Play with your brooms, Now you heard me, I expect to see most of yall in class, got it" He said looking at them, he was tired af having almost no kids in class when he was sappose to have Gryffindors.

For the first time since their head of house had entered, Dorian let a little emotion onto his face. He frowned, quite visibly. He’d didn’t mind, he wished to express his displeasure with the teacher. After all, how can you take points away from a student for having an opinion.?
”Excuse me sir, but I don’t think it’s fair of you to assume that I will skip your class. Surely you didn’t come to lecture us for something we haven’t done, and wont do in the future? What if is hypothetical; It’s no basis to punish all of us.”
Dorian stopped talking there. He wanted to add a few more things, but also didn’t want to be considered rude. So he kept them to himself. For the most part, he had spoken in a polite manner, even if an easier way to do things would have been to shut up and let the Professor talk himself out and eventually leave. But Dorian didn’t particularly care to let a teacher go thinking he was serving justice when really it was unreasonable.
Why didn’t he just seek out the students who’d skipped his class and punished them without having to hassle the whole common room? And he knew that every teacher thought their class a life or death matter, but simple attendance couldn’t save lives of students. It was their receptiveness to education. Dorian himself didn’t have a problem with paying attention in class, as long as the subject wasn’t boring. Remembering that Todd taught Care for Magical Creatures, a topic Dorian found rather appealing, he figured that Todd wouldn’t have a basis to punish him for skipping or not listening in the future.
”We understand Professor.”
Dorian said simply, after Todd had finished talking. He was unable to keep an irritated edge out of his voice. He thought he was safe, irritation was also no reason to punish a student. Even though Dorian had had Todd as Head of House for awhile, and hadn’t minded him much before, he now found his opinion of the professor spiraling downwards. It wouldn’t be long before it crashed and burned. But then, what did a student’s opinion matter to the Head of House?
